SOLE Technique
EDCLUB Movement was inspired by a TED Talk by Prof. Sugata Mitra in which he stated that traditional education systems are outdated now that knowledge is freely available online. Prof. Mitra argued that all children are naturally curious, so all they need to learn is access to the internet and someone to encourage them to ask the right questions.
Prof. Mitra piloted his now award-winning Self Organised Learning Environments (SOLE) Technique using a robust computer in a slum in India and the results were extraordinary. We wanted to put this mentor-based education model to the test.
For more information on the SOLE Technique, check out this toolkit.
Note that EDCLUB mentors act on a purely mentorship basis, not as teachers, and EDCLUB is complimentary to the mentees formal schooling, not a replacement for it.
In practice:
One teenage mentor (aged 15 and above)
A group of up to four mentees (aged between 9 - 14)
Twice weekly Teams calls over the course of an academic year
Questions start easy and build in difficulty. Mentors and mentees are free to explore topics that interest them, and if the mentors need help with structure or inspiration for questions this is all covered in our mentor pack
