We Encourage Disadvantaged Children to Learn Using Broadband
Our mission is simple: to give disadvantaged children access to computers and encourage them to learn using the internet.
As internet access becomes increasingly universal, everyone should have the tools and confidence to harness the knowledge available online to expand their own education beyond formal schooling.
How it works
1. Become a mentor
If you want to get involved then please email us at edclubmovement@gmail.com or by filling out the form on our Contact Us page.
2. Raise the funds
Mentors raise approximately £100 towards the costs of their share of a computer and internet access in our computer lab in Nairobi.
3. Ask the questions
Two times per week via Teams, teenage mentors set their assigned group of children (“mentees”) questions that would previously have been beyond their reach, challenging the mentees to explore the internet to find the answers. See our SOLE Technique page for more information.
Why join?
-
For the mentees
Mentees get the chance not only to expand their education beyond what is available at primary school, but also to learn the computer literacy, English language skills and confidence that secondary schools, universities and potential future employers are looking for.
-
For the mentors
Mentors develop their communication, relationship-building and leadership skills, while getting an insight into life where there are fewer immediately open doors. EDCLUB also fulfils IB and DofE volunteering requirements - see our DofE/IB page for more.
